Hi, My name is Tucker, and I am one heck of a great dog. I am just 4 years old, super healthy, and super friendly. I am a delightful mix of German Shorthaired Pointer and American Pit Bull Terrier. I?m a big boy, weighing about 88 pounds. I am very athletic, and love very much to go hiking and running. My other favorite activity is lying contentedly at your feet while you watch tv. Because of my size and energy level, I am not a great choice for small children. A family with a nice, big, securely fenced yard and teen aged children would be the perfect fit for me.
True to my GSP heritage, I am an ace bird dog. I have undergone extensive training via an 8 month hunting and obedience training program at starlight kennels in southern California. I retrieve birds and bumpers like a champ. I would love it if my new owner is a sportsman!
I do have some issues around children and people I am not familiar with. Kids make me nervous with their unpredictable behavior. I am very much a protector of hearth and home, and take time to warm up to new people. I need to be with owners who have a good knowledge of dog behavior and who will guide me with a firm hand.
I am such a loving, playful and devoted dog and I will make someone a wonderful companion and retriever (whether it?s water fowl ? or just toys in the back yard!). Please open your heart and home to me! I can?t wait to wow you with my wiggles and enthusiasm.

Tucker?s Personality
Tucker is energetic and playful. He is incredibly loving towards his family and is very loyal. He loves being outside, and loves to play. But he doesn?t have any problem settling down and just laying in the lawn to work on his tan. He loves to curl up and watch TV with me at night, and LOVES being near heaters or the fireplace. He?s always happy to see you and his wagging tail and enthusiasm is really hard to resist. He loves to play with other dogs his size. Small dogs seem to confuse him, and he doesn?t seem quite sure what to do with them, so we try to keep him with dogs about his size. He also doesn?t like children either. They are a little too unpredictable and loud for his taste. He can be protective of his home and family as well. So it?s best to meet people somewhere other than at home, so he doesn?t feel like he has to protect it. He is trained as a bird dog, and retrieves on command like a pro. He will find whatever it is that you throw for him whether its on land or in water and bring it back no problem at all. He hasn?t been hunting for a while, but I?m sure it would be just like riding a bicycle for him. Being out in the field, retrieving bumpers, or birds is by far his favorite thing in the world. He tends to be pretty nervous around new people, and doesn?t necessarily do well off leash with lots of people around. So parties and large gatherings can be stressful for him. He is crate trained. He?s been through an 8 month hunting and obedience training program at starlight kennels in southern california. Before that he went through the the petsmart basic training program.
Tucker?s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?
Tucker loves anything that squeaks, although they don?t last very long. He is an incredibly strong chewer. They?re also the only toys he?ll play with on his own. Toys aren?t usually the focus of his play time. If I?m not around to chase him around the back yard to try and get his stick, or play tug of war with him, then he doesn?t usually play with his toys. He just loves being around you.
Tucker?s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
Tucker needs a family of adults to take care of him. He doesn?t do well with children, so teens and above would be best. He much prefers to be active, although he does just fine lounging around the backyard for a few days if you don?t have time to walk him or get out too often. Or if you can?t be active for a couple days, he?s content just to be with you. He does need someone around in the evenings or he?ll get anxious and might act out a little.
Additional Comments:
Tucker has been my best friend for the last 4 years, and I love him very very much. It breaks my heart that I can?t keep him, but I can?t afford a house with a yard where I will be moving.
